In 2017, I experienced a life-changing event that completely changed the course of my career.
I gave birth to my son.
My baby boy was born with multiple disabilities and complex medical needs. While I expected parenthood to bring challenges, nothing could have prepared me for their severity or for how profoundly they would reshape every aspect of my life.
Before then, I had worked hard to earn my education and build a meaningful career. My professional identity was something I valued deeply, and I envisioned continuing to grow in that path.
But as my son’s needs became more complex, I took the most significant leap of my life. I stepped away from my career to become his full-time caregiver, advocate, and voice.
The decision was anything but easy. My greatest fear? Losing my identity.
Who would I be without a traditional profession? Would I still feel successful, or would my education and experience lose their meaning? Would I ever have the chance to pursue my goals again?
In many ways, that fear became reality. My career and personal aspirations were put on hold, and my days became filled with navigating medical systems, therapies, insurance, educational services, and legal processes while ensuring my son received the care and opportunities he deserved. Caring for him became a 24/7 responsibility that demanded resilience, quick learning, and constant advocacy.

But over time, something unexpected happened. I realized I hadn’t lost myself. I had discovered a new version of myself.
The skills I once used professionally evolved into something far more meaningful. I became a stronger leader, a more determined problem-solver, and an unwavering advocate.
Most importantly, my definition of success transformed. It was no longer measured by titles or promotions, but by the difference I could make for my son and for other families on similar journeys. I found a renewed sense of purpose.
Today, that unexpected leap has inspired me to support other families of children with disabilities, pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, and create initiatives that increase awareness, inclusion, and resources for individuals with rare disabilities and their caregivers.
Looking back, what once felt like an unimaginable detour became the foundation for the most meaningful chapter of my life filled with gratitude, love, leadership, advocacy, and impact.
I’ve learned that purpose doesn’t always arrive in the form we expect. Sometimes the leap we never planned transforms us the most, not just by changing what we do, but by revealing who we’re meant to become.
