I remember the day I walked away from that job. From the outside, it probably looked reckless to quit with nothing else lined up.
But staying felt far riskier.
The work environment had become so toxic that I felt myself withering. My will to live and work was already shattered; I felt I had to leave before my last shreds of hope and self-belief disappeared.
So I took a leap, leaving my career behind to pursue entrepreneurship as a freelance writer.
I wasn’t afraid of what would come next.
If anything, I was afraid of what would happen if I stayed where I was. Leaving wasn’t just a career move; it was more like survival.
I didn’t have a roadmap, and I didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into. Looking back, maybe a little fear would have helped.
The journey that followed was far from smooth or glamorous. There were moments of progress scattered across long stretches of uncertainty.
At one point, I stepped away from promoting my business for five years, driving for Uber, and picking up odd jobs to make ends meet while I figured out what I truly wanted. Did I even want to keep freelancing as a writer?
It wasn’t a straight line forward. It was unpredictable and humbling.
But somewhere along the way, I gained something I couldn’t have gotten any other way: wisdom.
By taking that blind leap, I learned through experience what I never could have anticipated.
When I finally decided to return to my writing business, I did it with a deeper understanding of myself, my work, and the reality of building something on my own.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that I’ll never know everything before starting something new—and that’s okay. Some lessons only reveal themselves when you’re in the midst of a challenge or standing at a crossroads.
I’ve come to embrace uncertainty rather than fear it. And I remain open to learning new lessons, no matter how tough they may be, because I know they’ll shape me in ways I could never predict.
Most importantly, I’ve realized this: I would rather risk failing while chasing my dreams than live my life waiting for permission, and miss my chance entirely.
My leap didn’t just change my career. It awakened a stronger, more courageous version of myself.
